Gutter Issues Every Homeowner Should Be Aware Of | Jerrys Gutters

Gutters, while not the first thing you think of when it comes to your home, are a very, very important component. They serve one main purpose which is to channel away water from the foundation of your home meaning they need to be in good condition to be able to do just that.

A properly working gutter will keep the foundation in place as you don’t want foundation issues as they are the structure that holds the home together.

So, what are some common problems that could occur with gutters that prevent that proper channeling away?

Here are some examples:

Sagging Gutters

Due to leaves, twigs and standing rain water getting into your gutter, the weight from these items will eventually cause the gutter to sag. This is due to loose hangers (the hardware that secures loose gutters to the home) which pull out when they can’t hold extra weight.

These sagging gutters can often get fixed by simply tightening the screws again. If the hangers though are spaced too far apart, you’ll need to install new ones so they are closer together.

Leaky Gutters

After a rain storm you may notice water pouring down from the middle of the gutter. This usually means your gutter sprung a leak. Luckily you don’t have to panic, as this issue is usually easy to fix. When this occurs, you can use gutter sealant to caulk the seams of where the leak is occurring. Larger holes though will need to be patched.

When patching the hole though you will want to make you are using the same material as the actual gutter. By using something different could cause erosion.

Keeping your gutters working it’s finest is an important part of home maintenance. While some of these issues you may be able to fix yourself you may want to hire a professional such as Jerry’s Gutters. We’ve been in the business for over 30 years and proudly serve Palm Beach County.
